Manager,
Marketing & Promotions, Fundraising Events

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is a dynamic, non-profit organization leading the way in finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life.  The Fundraising Events department of Ontario Division raises over $10 million annually and employs an industry leading team of over 40 individuals. 

We are seeking an innovative and dynamic individual who will be responsible for generating fundraising results through executing acquisition, retention, and fundraising event marketing plans to meet and exceed budget expectations for all Ontario fundraising programs.  The position will play a key role in the collateral development and brand management for the national core fundraising programs.  The Manager will be responsible for the performance and development of assigned staff, as well as the mentoring and growth of fundraising staff.  Additionally, the Manager will take on the responsibility of developing and stewarding relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders that are integral to the success and growth of the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee successful production of all event marketing pieces including creative development, driving multiple print and production timelines, and coordinating data management for promotional marketing campaigns.
  • Creative and Content Development – work with designers, productions staff, and program managers to develop creative materials to meet business needs.
  • Act as a project manager on the implementation, creation and development of several marketing, print, promotional, advertising and digital initiatives related to the MS Walk, RONA MS Bike Tours, MS Read-A-Thon, Women Against MS and other fundraising events
  • Work with program/event liaisons, as well as external suppliers, to ensure successful and timely implementation of all Ontario Fundraising Events marketing plans/projects
  • Ensure adherence to the marketing execution timeline for all programs
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times to all internal & external customers
  • In collaboration with the program managers, develop and implement marketing, promotions and recruitment strategies and plans for all Ontario Fundraising programs.
  • Develop and implement an integrated and comprehensive e-marketing campaign and website strategy for all Ontario Fundraising programs.
  • Recommend appropriate communications/media vehicles for achieving marketing objectives
  • Support implementation of research, surveys, analysis and measurement tools to guide development of marketing, promotions, and recruitment strategies
  • Ensure consistency of messaging, branding, look and feel for all programs and events
  • Oversee content, writing, and communications work for all Ontario Fundraising marketing and communications
  • Provide leadership, marketing training and direction to direct reports, production team and fundraising team.
  • Ensure that all marketing staff have the necessary support to carry out their duties (administration, performance development, guidance, and all other necessary materials).
  • Act in a leadership role as part of the ON FR management team and work collaboratively with other ON Division and National staff.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in a related field with at least 5 years experience in a marketing related role or the equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit environment managing fundraising programs or a related professional business environment is an asset
  • Experience managing staff, corporate clients and/or working with senior staff and /or volunteer boards is an asset
  • Superior project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including developing strategic plans, reports, presentations etc.
  • Self-motivated and mature; an ability to develop goals and objectives and implement strategies with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional relationship management and customer service skills, and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and display discretion at all times.
  • Ability to work successfully within different organizational structures and feel comfortable with both junior and senior reporting relationships.
  • Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and produce results
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills and ability to practice good decision-making, especially under pressure.
  • Above average computer skills – experience with Microsoft XP and database programs and internet and online tools.
  • Ability to work in a team-focused environment and work with junior and senior staff within the MS Society.
  • A valid G2 driver's license is required and the person must be over 21 years of age in order to rent a car

Location: Toronto with some provincial travel.

Extended hours and weekend work will be required from time to time.

Senior Coordinator,

Contract full time position (12 months)

The Ontario Fundraising Events Department is a non-profit events sector leader, generating millions in fundraising revenue mostly through well-known participant-based fundraising programs such as the RONA MS Bike Tour, the MS Read-A-Thon, the MS Walk, and Women Against MS.

The MS Society of Canada, Ontario Division, is seeking an industrious marketing and communications professional, who will be responsible for the execution of all Ontario Fundraising Events print collateral, copywriting and promotional initiatives, working collaboratively with several external and internal suppliers, stakeholders and co-workers.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the execution and implementation of all marketing, communication, promotion, advertising, print collateral, apparel, and digital initiatives for core fundraising events and programs.

  • Participate in and/or lead onsite initiatives (trade shows, street teams, etc.) as needed
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times to all internal & external customers
  • Responsible for data administration including proofing, data manipulation, and data requests, etc.
  • Oversee the proofing process, approvals, content/version tracking, coordination of distribution channels
  • Library management (logos, photos, graphic files)

Qualifications

  • A college diploma or university degree in a marketing, advertising, communications, social sciences or related field with a minimum of 2 years experience , preferably in a fundraising or marketing environment or the equivalent education and experience
  • Strong initiative with ability to independently prioritize and drive multiple projects with overlapping deadlines
  • Strong written, verbal and communication skills, with good interpersonal skills to communicate in a professional manner
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the marketing and program teams to ensure marketing and promotional needs are met
  • Superior computer skills, with experience in Microsoft Office and Excel spreadsheets, and an aptitude for database systems
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure, professional environment
  • Hands-on, adaptable to change and with a clear ‘can do’ attitude

Location: Toronto.

Evening and weekend work is a component of this job, as is physical event work.

MS Walk Intern,
Fundraising Events, Ontario Division

Full time internship (3 months)

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the MS Walk management team and Toronto MS Walk coordinator to provide logistics, administration and customer service support. The MS Walk is the MS Society’s largest fundraising event. Taking place in 59 communities around the province, it raises over $6.1 million annually.

This is a 3 month position starting October 2010 based out of our Toronto office. The selected candidate will receive a paid Honorarium.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the weekly MS Walk Blog Posts on everystepmatter.ca
  • Assist with weekly MS Walk Facebook and Twitter account messaging
  • Work with the Ontario Sponsorship team to research prospective sponsors
    • Support the Toronto MS Walk committee and coordinator in recruitment of walkers and teams
  • Coordinate the proofing of print materials with the MS Walk team
  • Provide support for all logistics projects for the Toronto MS Walk coordinator
  • Work with senior coordinators to support team logistics projects
  • Coordinate information for MS Walk web updates 
  • Track and code invoices, expense reports and purchase orders
  • General printing and photocopying of MS Walk weekend materials
  • Support file transition and organization of MS Walk file on SharePoint site
    • Provide ongoing customer service for participants, team captains, sponsors, donors and volunteers for all MS Walk sites with a strong emphasis on the Toronto MS Walk
    • Make top fundraiser and team stewardship calls for the Toronto MS Walk and other sites as assigned
    • Follow MS Society customer service standards and practices with event participants
    • Coordinate sending out prizes and contacting the winners of the recruitment incentives

Qualifications

  • Completed or currently completing a college/university degree in event planning, fundraising and/or a related field 
  • Fundraising and special event planning experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent email and phone manner
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure professional environment
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
  • Ability to maintain accurate, timely and complete documentation and electronic records
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and an aptitude for database systems
  • A valid G Class Driver’s License is an asset
